Famous Portrait Photographer: Herb Ritts

Herb Ritts is considered one of the most influential portrait photographers of the 21st century. Ritts worked with a virtual who’s who of celebrities the world over and is celebrated for his black-and-white portraits taken in the style of classical Greek sculpture. Consequently, many consider him the grandfather of glamour photography. During the 1980s and 1990s, Ritts became the world’s leading celebrity portrait photographer. Some of his most famous work included the first pictures of a paralyzed Christopher Reeve and Elizabeth Taylor just days after she underwent brain surgery. Ritts’ notoriety also gained him unprecedented access to subjects, including President Ronald Reagan, actorJack Nicholson and singer Madonna, whose portraits have fetched millions of dollars.

Journal Notes for 9/8

This is a portrait of a man using High Key lighting. Notice how there is a glow about him.
Citing: http://www.virtualbackgrounds.net/backgrounder/backgrounder-march10.html
This is a picture using Low Key lighting. The actual lighting in this is very subtle.

This is a pictues taken on a very sunny day. While the highlights show up very well they are no darker light to accent it.

The lighting in this picture use s very low lights to accent the subject, the surfer and his board

Although the main focus of this picture is nice the color of the lighting tends to be a little flat with not much accent in color

Elements and Principles

This is my Large proportion picture. I used photoshop to desaturate everything in the shot but the ball.
this is the shot i took for value. I shot this photo in black and white because i thought the color fade on the flower itself was a gorgeous transition of color.
I love t5his shot i took for radial balance. the pots in a circle bring your attention to the frog in the center.
this is my friend Dmitri and he is always moving so i caught him jumping from the tree and catching what i think is kind of the escense of him.

Journal Notes for 9/7

This is an example of a long exposure. because the light was let in longer more light was written on the film. Citing: http://www.hautstyle.co.uk/long-exposure-photography/
This is an example of f stops the amount of light let in only allowed for the man sitting down to be in focus and not the people walking by him.
Citing: http://www.steadierfooting.net/2008/09/f-stops-shutter-speeds.html
This is an example of a very fast shutter speed. Because the shutter speed was very fast the camera was able to capture the intricate detail of the water droplets.
Citing: http://digital-photography-school.com/forum/tutorials/54071-speed-photography-101-a.html
This is an example of camera movement. When the picture was being taken the camera moved created a "layered" look.
Citing: http://www.digital-photography-school.com/move-your-camera-to-create-motion-blur
With different film speeds the exposure is different and creates a clearer crisper picture in different settings.

My Sunprint after Photoshop

Going on with the musical element, I like to think i am somewhat unique as a person. Some of my favorite things in life are music of any sort and simple things like the glow of the stars and nightlife. The colors are never the same pattern and always find a different way to catch your attention. I love the glow of the white light against the black light as well. It gives the picture a contrasting look.

My Orginal Sunprint

I feel i am somewhat of a musical person. Music is my life and although I do not play to much on anystrument i know a little bit of a few things. Learning guitar is my latest project and i am planning on following through. So at the moment this photo represent my life a little bit.
